Four youths were arrested here for allegedly getting 57 credit cards issued using fake identities of Air India employees and causing a loss of Rs 40 lakh to the bank, police said today.
The arrested have been identified as Mayank Jain (28), Roshan Dass (27), Kuldeep Srivastava (23) and Ashok Ganwani (35), DCP (EoW) K K Vyas said.
The youths allegedly used to get credit cards issued from Citibank on the basis of fake salary slips and identity cards of Air India employees.
After receiving a complaint from the bank, investigations were conducted and Air India informed police that no such employees under whose names cards were issued were working with them, Vyas said.
"Close scrutiny of the transactions revealed that these cards were used at a few selected places only. Meticulous surveillance revealed that these cards were mostly used at SP Enterprises in east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar," he said.
The shop owner Ganwani was interrogated and it led to Jain, he said.
"Jain and Das had their fathers working in Air India and they used to live in Air India Colony, Vasant Vihar. They were familiar with the working of Air India. Both accused worked as agents for insurance policies and bank loans but were unable to meet their expenses due to lavish life style.
"Both decided to get credit cards issued fraudulently. Srivastava is tech savvy and he created fake documents. He has been preparing for MBA from M D University Rohtak," the DCP said.
Ganwani allegedly used to swipe cards on the condition that he gets commission. Transaction through Ganwani's shop allegedly has been to the tune of Rs 18 lakh. Some other cards swiping points have been identified and raids are being conducted, Vyas said.
"Citibank has suffered a loss to the tune of Rs 40 lakh due to the fraud," he said.
