Uttar Pradesh is leading other states of the country in BJP's membership drive by registering around 42 lakh members so far.

"Over 1.54 crore persons have joined BJP during the campaign in the country. UP is number one with 42 lakh members registered till last night," BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai told reporters here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah had launched the membership drive on November 1.

He said that BJP has decided to launch phase wise agitation against Samajwadi Party government on issues of poor law and order and corruption.

"The party has decided to launch a protest against SP government on issues of corruption and poor law and order," he said.

BJP would rake up the issues of corruption by UP mining minister Gyatri Prasad Prajapati, Noida chief engineer Yadav Singh graft case and check dam scam and apprise people about them, Bajpai said.

He alleged that BSP has joined hands with SP to save its leaders from being prosecuted in corruption cases of the Mayawati regime.

"BSP is seen neither on streets nor in the House. It has not fielded candidates against SP in by elections and the latter (BSP) is defending its leaders from corruption cases," he said.
