44 bonded labourers, mostly children and women, rescued in MP

44 alleged bonded labourers, including 21 children and 12 women, who were working in a brick kiln were rescued by the district administration from Sabalgarh tehsil, a senior official said today.

The labourers belong to Kanshiram Nagar in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials reached Shriram Brick Kiln at Chamargavan village and rescued the 44 persons working as bonded labourers from the site yesterday, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ajay Katesaria said today.

Among the rescued were 21 children, 12 women and 11 men, he said.

The brick kiln is owned by Mahesh Tyagi.

The Collector provided Rs 2,000 each to the rescued labourers and sent them back to their native place, the SDM said.
