45 militants surrender in Manipur

Forty-five militants of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) today surrendered along with 42 weapons before Manipur government authorities in the presence of a central government representative, police said.

The militants agreed to join the mainstream and handed over 42 weapons, including AK rifles and M-16 rifles, to the state principal secretary home Suresh Babu, additional DGP (intelligence) Santosh Marchela and other officials at Jiribam, they said.

The surrendered militants, who would be rehabilitated by the government, have been sent to a Assam Rifles battalion camp at Jiribam for temporary stay, police said.

More than 250 militants of different outfits have surrendered so far this year, officials said.
