45-year old gets life term for murder

A 45-year-old farmer was today sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here for murdering a man, who had pulled him up for assaulting a physically challenged person.

District and Sessions Judge A Zakir Hussain convicted Mohan of Mannargudi of murdering 59-year old Jayabal in December 2011 and also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.

According to prosecution, Mohan had stabbed Jayabal, a watchman in a cooperative credit society, in an inebriated condition for reprimanding him for attacking the physically challenged person on December 31, 2011.

The victim, who suffered stab injuries in the incident, succumbed at Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital the next day.
