As many as 4500 prisoners were enrolled for various educational programmes in prisons in Haryana during this year, an official spokesman said today.
The programmes were conducted with the help of Indira Gandhi National Open University, National Institute of Open Schooling, Sarv Siksha Abhiyan and other such institutions, he said.
DTH and Cable TV facilities were available in barracks in all jails in the state to improve recreational facilities for inmates, the spokesman said.

The Central Jail-II, Hisar, had been made operational to reduce overcrowding in state's prisons, he said.
Posts of warden, head warden, Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent in jails lying vacant for years had been filled up, the spokesman said.
The department's website had been launched and updated information had been made available on it, he said.
