The 46th pontiff of Sri Ahobila Mutt, Rangantha Yateendra Mahadesikan, today took charge as the head of the famous Mutt here.

Devotees thronged the 'Pattabishekam (ascending the throne)' ceremony with the pontiff wearing a traditional golden ring with images of Lord Narasimha and the 'Hamsa' bird in the little finger and formally signing as "Sri Sadagopa Sri" and sitting in the traditional chair.

After taking charge, the seer, who became a junior pontiff in May 2009, appointed three executives to take care of the affairs of the Mutt.

He told newsmen the Mutt would make arrangements, including creating infrastructure for performing obsequies of poor vaishnavites, at a nominal rate. The Mutt also planned to train 'archakas' in 'agamas' and temple administration.

The priority, he said, would be to retrieve mutt properties, which had been encroached, and recover dues including rent, from those occupying the property.
