A contingent of 470 freshly-trained personnel was today commissioned into the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The recruits and their passing out parade was reviewed by ITBP Director General Krishan Chaudhary at a camp of the mountain force here.

The RPF, under the Railway Ministry, has recruited 17,087 candidates last year but owing to paucity of training facilities in the central railway security force, the government tasked various paramilitary forces including Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force to train them.

"The recruits who were inducted into the RPF today have been trained in various security techniques and drills for 26 weeks at the ITBP centre here. The trainers included both from the ITBP and RPF," a senior official said.

ITBP's 39th battalions is based at Lakhnawali here.
