498 unaccounted EVMs recovered

The authorities today recovered 498 unaccounted Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from a godown at the district collectorate premises in Bihar's Purnia district, a senior district official said.

The haul of EVMs were recovered from land acquisition department godown in the presence of the executive magistrate Manoj Kumar Rajak and the deputy electoral officer Ramlala Singh, District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said.

The state election department has been informed about recovery of the EVMs which were not accounted for the inventory in the charge list of the district magistrates or the deputy electoral officer of the district, he said.

Regarding the condition of these EVMs, the district magistrate said that the machines were not in working condition as the batteries have been removed even though the control unit and ballot units could be functional.
