5.8kg of gold seized from Indo-Bangla border; one held

BSF troops today seized over 5kgs of gold, including 27 biscuits made of the yellow metal, when the cache was being smuggled across West Bengal's border with Bangladesh.

Officials said a Border Security Force patrol early this morning apprehended a person from Amudia border post area of North 24 Parganas district when he was carrying the cache in a suspicious manner.

"27 gold biscuits, one gold bar and eight gold rods have been seized from the person. The total weight of the seized items is 5.8kg and the value of the goods is estimated to be Rs 1.65 crore," a senior officer said.
 

The person, who hails from the same district, has been handed over to local police, he said.
