5 college students arrested with arms in Odisha

Five college students including four from engineering institutes were arrested today for allegedly carrying illegal firearms, police said.

The students, moving on bikes, were intercepted by the Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate of Police and Tamando police last night to nab culprits of Rs 11 lakh occurred under Khandagiri police limits here, Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma said.

They came to police net while sleuths were frisking at different locations here to nab an accused, who robbed Rs 11 lakh from an accountant of a private hospital yesterday,

All accused students were booked under Arms Act for possession of illegal arms, he said.
 

Out of the five accused held, four are engineering students while the other one belongs to a private college, Sharma said.

Two semi-automated pistols, one country-made revolver, ten live bullets, six mobile phones and two wallets were seized from them, he said.

Sharma said the police would launch a drive in all the engineering colleges after summer vacation as engineering students involvement in different crimes are on rise.
