Surveillance was stepped up along Bhutan border villages in Alipurduar district in view of the forthcoming West Bengal assembly elections.
The district magistrate said security forces would intensify patrolling in the area in the run up to the polling days.
Of the 85 companies alloted for the district, five companies arrived today and started route march in certain pockets of the district, the official said.
Besides, 2500 state police personnel will be on duty.
