5 cops injured as an SUV rams into Speaker's escort jeep

Five policemen were injured when a vehicle hit Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary's escort jeep on NH-83 in Bihar's Jehanabad district today, a police officer said.

The incident took place at Irki village as a police jeep escorting Chaudhary on way to Jehanabad town from Barabar hills was hit by a SUV injuring five cops, identified as Ramanand Singh, Rajeshwar Saran, Binda Mandal, Lal Babu Singh and Shivnath Mishra, Inspector Nagendra Singh said.

The injured cops were taken to the Sadar hospital for treatment, he said.

Dr Radhe Krishna, who treated all injured cops at the Sadar hospital, said that the condition of all of them was out of danger.
 

The SUV that collided with the Speaker's escort jeep was seized for investigation, but later released, Singh said.

The Speaker was returning to Jehanabad town to attend an Iftar Party after attending a function at Barabar hills presided over by the Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
