5 dead, 20 injured after truck hits tractor in MP's Shivpuri

Five people, including two women, were killed today after the trolley-attached tractor they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Naya Amola in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, police said.

The tractor overturned after it was hit from the rear by the truck, killing two people instantly, while three others succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital, police said.

Twenty people were also injured, an official said.

The incident happened at around 2pm on the Shivpuri- Jhansi four-lane road, some 30 kilometres from the district headquarters, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Hingankar said.

Amola police station Inspector Gopal Choubey said that 35 people were on their way from Silapur village to a temple in Mamoni village to perform a ritual when the accident took place.

 

He identified the deceased as Tulsi Bai (65), Baralal (63), Bhagwan Singh (22), Bajju (50) and Sunil (35).

The driver has been arrested and the truck has been impounded, he said.
