Akal Takht head Gurbachan Singh today summoned five officials of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) in Haryana in the wake of proposed move to set up a separate religious body to manage affairs of Sikh shrines in the state.

Those asked to appear before Akal Takht, the top temporal seat of Sikhs, tomorrow are Haryana SGPC head Jagdish Singh Jhinda, General Secretary Didar Singh Nalwi, members Baba Gurmit Singh Tirlokpuri and Apar Singh, and Haryana Sikh Youth wing president Harmanjit Singh.

"They have been asked to appear at the secretariat of Akal Takht tomorrow to explain the reason why a separate management Sikh body is to be formed in the state of Haryana," Singh said.

A Sikh congregation is being organised at Kaithal in Haryana on July 6 to discuss the issue of separate SGPC in that state.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda too had made it clear that his government would take any decision on the issue in the "interests of Sikhs" drawing ire from SGPC head Avtar Singh Makkar and SAD patron and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The Kaithal congregation is being organised jointly by Didar Singh Nalwi and Jagdish Singh Jhinda, two senior leaders in Haryana who recently joined together on the issue of separate SGPC for Haryana.
