The five persons, residents of remote villages in Uttaraon, Saray Inayat and Phoolpur police station areas in trans-Ganga and Ghoorpur police station area, were arrested by a joint team, Senior Superintendent of Police Mohit Agrawal told reporters here.
He said the arrested persons confessed during their interrogation that they were in the business of stealing vehicles and making money by selling them off at throwaway prices.
The tip-off provided by them led to recovery of one Chevrolet Tavera SUV, eleven motorcycles and a scooter from different parts of the district, the SSP said.
A case has been registered against the arrested persons while efforts were on to trace the owners of the stolen vehicles, the SSP added.
