Five persons, including two women, were arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly kidnapping a seven-year-old boy and demanding a ransom of Rs four lakh from his family.

According to the police the child's maternal uncle had masterminded the whole operation to overcome his financial problems and had planned to kill the boy after receiving the ransom.

Apart from him, the police has also arrested four others after a missing complaint was received from the child's family at Sunlight Colony Police station on November 24, 2013. A kidnapping case was lodged thereafter, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

He said six mobile phones including those used to make the ransom calls and one motorcycle were recovered from them.

Initially the kidnappers had demanded Rs 14 lakh but had later agreed upon Rs four lakh, the police official said.
