5 held with narcotics in J-K

Five persons, including a woman, were arrested today after drugs were recovered from their possession in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, police said.

The woman was intercepted by a police patrolling team in Sawan Chak area and four kgs of cannabis were recovered from her possession, a police officer said.

Another team apprehended one Mohd Ashraf in the district with 105 grams of heroin from his possession.

Both the accused disclosed that the seized narcotics was supposed to be sold in Kathua town and its adjoining areas, he said.

In a separate incident, the excise department and police acted on a tip-off and recovered 1,960 bottles (100ml each) of codeine phosphate syrup from a truck.
 

The truck driver, Abdul Rashid Mir, have been arrested along with his two aides -- Owais Bashir and Amir Ahmed, the police official said.
