Five persons were killed and 19 other passengers of a bus injured today in a collision with a lorry at Alangulam, about 35 km from here.
Four persons, including two women, died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries in the Government Medical College and Hospital here, police said.
The lorry was being driven "rashly" and the driver of the Tamil Nadu Government owned transport corporation bus tried to avoid hitting it by steering his vehicle to the extreme left, but yet the collision occurred at around 10.30 pm. The bus driver escaped unhurt, they said.
After hitting the bus, the lorry rammed into a roadside hut, but fortunately there were no occupants in it.
