Five persons, including a woman, were killed and six others injured when their van rammed a tree on the city's outskirts early this morning.
"Around 15 people were travelling in the van, which collided with a tree today on Rajkot-Gondal national highway after the driver lost control over the vehicle," Gondal taluka's police sub-inspector A L Mehta said.
"Three persons were killed on the spot while two others, who were first admitted to Gondal hospital and then referred to Rajkot civil hospital, were declared dead on arrival," he said.

Three of the deceased have been identified as - Geeta Shyamsinh, Sandip Brahman and Balsinh. Efforts are on to identify the two other deceased, Mehta said.
A complaint has been lodged for rash driving against the van driver, who was also killed in the mishap, police added.
