Five persons were killed and seven others injured when a jeep lost control and hit a tree here in wee hours today, police said .
The incident took place at about 4 AM, when the jeep carrying 12 persons lost control and hit a tree in the city area killing five on the spot, they said.
The injured have been rushed to the district hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable, they said.
