At least five persons, including four children, were killed today and seven others injured as fire broke out in a slum settlement here in Pakistan's business hub.

"Five persons were killed as they were sleeping when the fire broke out including four children," senior police official said.

According to initial reports, the persons were burned to death as food was being cooked in one of the huts when fire erupted and engulfed many other closeby settlements in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, the official said.

Earlier on October 13, a landslide in a slum settlement in Gulistan-e-Jauhar had killed 13 people including three women and seven children and injured a dozen.

Earlier this year in February, at least 50 makeshift huts were burnt in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, causing injuries to two people.
