Five labourers were buried alive today when a heap of mud caved in on them near the Pulichinthala dam in neighbouring Nalgonda district of Telangana, police said.
The mishap took place at around 1.15 pm when a group of persons were constructing the retaining wall near the dam when a heap of excavated mud beside the construction site collapsed on them, Nalgonda District Superintendent of Police T Prabhakar Rao told PTI.
The rain-soaked mud, which loosened following rains since yesterday, suddenly collapsed and buried them underneath, the SP said.
Five bodies were retrieved while one person was rescued from the debris. Further investigations are underway, he said.
