At least five persons have been killed and nearly 6,000 others were affected due to heavy rains in central China's Hubei Province, the provincial civil affairs department said today.

More than 5,800 people have been relocated in the rainstorms sweeping through the province since last two days.

The water levels of about 400 reservoirs in the province exceeded the warning level.

According to the provincial civil affairs department, the rainstorms have killed five persons and left four missing.

Roads, houses, power and water conservation facilities have been damaged, causing a direct economic loss of USD 111 million, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Yingshan County, where a four-storey residential building was washed away yesterday, was worst hit by the rainstorm.

The owner of the building evacuated his family before the collapse after receiving a government warning.
