At least five people were killed today when a US drone targeted a militant hideout on Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.

Security officials said initial reports showed that the drone fired at least four missiles at a house owned by a local militant commander having links with Haqqani network.

"At least five people have been killed in the attack," officials said.

But there was confusion about the location of the house as security officials said that the target was Naray Kandao area of Paktia province of Afghanistan, while officials of local administration said the hideout was located on Pakistan side of the border in Kurram tribal district.

The Pak-Afghan border is more than 2,400 kms long and at places is poorly marked. Some of the villages are located on both sides of the border.

It was the second drone strike since August when US President Donald Trump unveiled his new Afghan and south Asia policy.
