Five members of a family here were caught in a blaze after their house was allegedly set on fire by one of their relatives and his friends, police said today.

The incident occurred early this morning when Jagdish Rathore, his wife Geeta, son Mahesh and daughters Saraswati and Laxmi were asleep in their Maniyar area house when one of their relatives Ramveer Rathore and his two friends set it on fire, Superintendent of Police M L Chari said.

Since two year's Jagdish's daughter Laxmi, 22, had been living with her parents after she came back from her husband Ramlakhan's house in Tatra area of Morena, the SP said.

Laxmi's brother-in-law Ramveer had come to take her back to Morena late last night, but she refused saying he wanted to establish a physical relationship with her since her husband who works as a stone cutter in Rajasthan was away, the police official said.

An enraged Ramveer, along with his two unidentified friends, returned after some time, poured fuel from a window and torched the house while they were all asleep, he said.

The injured persons have been admitted to the district hospital where their condition was stated to be serious, police said adding that a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 436 (mischief by fire) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.

Meanwhile, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team is conducting a study at the crime scene, he said.
