5 of family get life term for burning alive woman over dowry

A fast-track court today sentenced five members of a family, including two women, to life imprisonment here for burning alive a woman in a dowry case.

Judge Rajiv Bhardwaj also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on Shive Kumar, the husband of the victim, Harbir (father-in-law), Harbiri (mother-in-law), Anju (sister-in-law) and Tinku (brother-in-law) after holding them guilty under section 304 of IPC.

According to government pleader Inam Ilahi Tyagi, Pinki was burnt alive by her husband and other members of his family over dowry demands at Rasulpur village under Shapur police station in the district on August 13, 2014.
 

The accused were later arrested by the police on the basis of a complaint from her family.
