As many as 5 persons, including two minors, allegedly committed suicide in different parts of the city in the last 24 hours, police said today.
A 12-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside his house yesterday in Gujaini area when his parents were away. The incident came to light when he did not open the door for long, and his sister informed the neighbours, a police spokesperson said.
He was rushed to a hospital by the police , but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The boy took the extreme step after being scolded by his father Ashok Kumar, the spokesperson said.
A 47-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Barra police station limits after not being able to get a job, the spokesperson said.
A 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Maharajpur area after she was scolded by her mother, he said, adding her condition worsened and she died during treatment.
In the fourth incident, 40-year-old Sunita Singh allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Harbansh area yesterday.
She had fought with her husband Santosh Singh, whose business was not doing well, and took the extreme step when her children had gone to school, the spokesperson said.
A 45-year-old woman Ritu Agarwal allegedly committed suicide over financial woes by consuming poison in Noubasta area, police said.
Her husband informed the police that she used to stitch clothes and her business was not doing well.
All the five bodies have been sent for post mortem and probe is on in all the cases, police said.
