Press Trust of India Kochi
: Five persons, including a woman taken into custody today by Income Tax officials on suspicion of being engaged in the currency exchange business, are likely to be released due to 'lack of evidence,' IT sources said.

They said that nothing could be detected from the persons to suggest that they were into the currency business.

The five were nabbed from near the international stadium at Kaloor, about 11 km from here, at around noon today.

The sources said they were taken into custody based on a tip off. But during questioning it was revealed that they were not engaged in the currency business.

The IT officials had sought the help of local police to round up the men who fled the scene when they realized that they were trapped in the IT net.

The incident occurred a day after Income Tax officials seizedRs 37.5 lakh in new currency notes here.

Five persons have been taken into custody in this connection.
