5 policemen injured in attack by cattle smugglers; 16 arrested

Five policemen were injured when a group of cattle smugglers allegedly attacked them in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

The smugglers, who were in at least 10 trucks, were stopped by the police team at Shahdra check point this afternoon, police said.

They allegedly attacked the police team leaving five of the officials injured.

Later, on getting the information, police and CRPF personnel chased the attackers and arrested sixteen of them.

"16 smugglers were arrested and ten vehicles along with 43 cattle were seized," a senior police official said.

A case has been registered against them and probe is on, he said. There is a ban imposed on transportation of bovine.
