5 policemen suspended, booked over youth's suicide in lock-up

Five policemen, including two SHOs, were today suspended for dereliction of duty after a 20-year-old youth committed suicide inside police lock-up here, police said.

Pawan Kumar, who was arrested with country-made liquor on Friday night, had yesterday committed suicide by hanging himself inside lock-up of Narkhi police station, Superintendent of Police Piyush Srivastava said.

Pawan's family members alleged that he committed suicide after being assaulted by police, Srivastava said.

On the basis of complaint of Pawan's family members, an FIR was lodged last night against Station House Officer of Narkhi, Dhyan Singh, SHO Fariha Shravan Kumar Rana, senior sub-inspector D P Singh, head constable Awadhesh Kumar and personnel Jaiveer Singh, the SP said.
 

After laxity was found in the investigation, all the five policemen were suspended today, the SP added.
