5 students get 2-year RI for attacking junior during ragging

A local court today awarded two-year rigorous imprisonment to five students of a college for assaulting and seriously injuring their junior during ragging near here in 2011.

Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Arun Kumar Kharadi also imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on each of convicts Naeem Sheikh (19), Devendra Singh (20), Subhashit Kaithwas (21), Dharmendra Chourasia (19) and Vicky Gupta (18).

The judge found them guilty under sections 147 (rioting),

325 (inflicting serious injury) and 341 (forcibly blocking the passage) of Indian Penal Code.

According to prosecution, the five seniors had ragged Sarthak (18) at their college in Rau area on September 14, 2011. The students had summoned Sarthak to appear before them but he refused to obey as he was boarding a bus to return home.
 

"The seniors then attacked Sarthak with baseball bats and

kicked and punched him, which left him seriously injured," said district public prosecution officer B G Sharma.
