5 students hurt as school bus hits them

Five students, aged between 4 and 9 years, were injured today when a speeding school bus hit them after its driver lost control over the vehicle in Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad.

The injured students have been identified as Rishika (Class III student), Vishal, Ashutosh, Deepak (students of Class I) and Radhika, (Class V student).

Police said the condition of Radhika, who suffered fracture on both her legs, and Ashutosh, who suffered injuries on his head, is stated to be serious.

According to police, the incident took place around 1.30 PM when a white-colour bus attached with a leading private school of Indirapuram reached near Lal Bahadur Shastri Sainik Secondary School situated in Kavi Nagar.
 

"The driver of the school bus, carrying 20 students on their way back home, lost control over the vehicle near Lal Bahadur Shastri Sainik Secondary School from where students were leaving for their homes," a senior police officer said.

The officer said the bus hit a car of one R P Agarwal, who came to pick up his son, from behind and then again hit nearby parked school rickshaws and scooters, adding that the injured children came in contact with the bus.

"After the incident, all five students were immediately rushed to the nearby Sarvodaya Hospital where Deepak was discharged after giving first-aid. Vishal, Deepak, Rishika and Radhika are recuperating at the hospital," he said.

"We have arrested accused driver, identified as Neeraj, who was beaten up by passersby and parents after incident," the officer added.
