5 traffic cops injured by car while manning barricade

Five traffic police constables were injured, three of them critically, when a car hit them while they were manning a barricade on Outer Ring Road near Majnu Ka Tila during a special drive in wee hours of today.

The incident took place around 2 AM when the policemen were busy issuing challan to a truck for violation of traffic rule. A car came at high speed and hit the barricade injuring the Delhi Traffic Police constables -- Pradip, Vinit Kashyap, Narendra Datta, Vinit and Hem Chandra, said a senior police officer.

They were rushed to the trauma centre of a hospital in Civil Lines area, from where Pradip, Vinit Kashyap and Narendra Dutta were shifted to Max Hospital this morning.
 

According to the officer, the five injured personnel were part of a 10-member group manning the barricade put up to check lane diversion by vehicles on Outer Ring Road near Master Chandgi Ram Akahara in Majnu Ka Tila area.

Delhi Traffic Police has been carrying out special drives to curb traffic rule violations during night hours.

The accused car driver, Dinesh Sharma, a resident of Rohini, has been arrested.

Sharma was returning from a trip to Vrindavan, along with his wife and son. He told the investigators that he failed to see the policemen leading to the accident.
