An unidentified person abducted a 5-year-old girl sleeping by her mother's side from a house in the wee hours today and raped her at a public toilet, police said here.
Inspector Balasaheb Tambe of the Kasarwadavali police station said after the girl's father died, her mother moved to the city six months ago from Latur and started living with her parents.
At around 2.30 am today an unidentified man entered the house and picked up the sleeping girl. He took her to a toilet near the public garden in the area, and left her there after raping her, he said.
The girl's cries alerted the garden's watchman who took her to the police station. By that time the girl's mother also reached there to report her missing daughter, he added.
Further probe is on, Tambe said.
