5-yr jail in military pension fraud case

A CBI court here today awarded five years' imprisonment to five persons for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 9 lakh from Shillong treasury in 1986.

CBI court judge Sarbjit also slapped a Rs 95,000 penalty on each of them.

The matter relates to withdrawal of Rs 9 lakh from treasury at Shillong in Meghalaya fraudulently in the name of a retired Army havildar in the year 1986.

Those awarded punishment included kingpin of the gang Dinesh Kumar Sharma. The other four are Dinesh Singh, Arvind Jha, Jay Narayan and Binay Kumar, who retired from the post of Naik in the Army.
 

A probe brought to light that the gang had made fraudulent withdrawal from treasury of Sagar in Madhya Pradesh too in the past.
