A case of rioting was registered against over 50 unidentified persons by the Mehsana town police for stone-pelting and vandalism during the funeral procession of Mayur Patel, who died two days ago after suffering injuries during the Patel quota agitation in August.

According to the FIR lodged at Mehsana 'A' division police station, over 50 unidentified persons threw stones at BJP office near the railway station and broke several window-panes during the procession yesterday.

"The mob also broke some milk crates outside a dairy parlour near Toran Mata Chowk. We are investigating. No arrests have been made," said police sub-inspector F M Chavda.

Mayur Patel (22), who was allegedly shot at by security forces during the Patel quota agitation here on August 26, died at a private hospital on December 25.

He had suffered a bullet injury in the neck at Modhera cross-roads.

A large number of Patel community members had turned up for his funeral, local Patel leaders said.
