About 50 people, including women and children, have been admitted to a hospital with suspected symptoms of food poisoning after they consumed curd bought from a local vendor at Chandvad town in Maharashtra's Nashik district, police said today.

Residents of Ragewadi, Panchal, Lenditahi and Market Yard localities had yesterday purchased some curd from a woman, who regularly sells it in and around these localities.

Immediately after consuming the curd, they started vomiting and complained of loose motion and were admitted to a hospital in Chandvad, Medical Officer Sushil Shinde said.

Eight children were shifted to Nashik for further treatment, while condition of other patients is improving, a doctor said.

According to locals, the woman has been selling curd in their localities for the past several years.

Police have launched a search to nab the woman.
