Fifty persons attending the last rites of a deceased person at a village in the district were hospitalised today after they were bitten by poisonous beetles, police said.
They said one Pichaipillai from Andakkudaiyan village had gone with his relatives and friends to an area near a mangrove to perform the last rites of his father when they were bitten by the poisonous beetles.
All of them were admitted to the Government hospital here, police said.
