50-member team leaves for Mughal Road Trekking Expedition

The expedition is aimed at attracting more tourists to the Valley and the Youth Services and Sports Minister R S Chib Minister said that the trekking camp especially through the historic Mughal Road route would certainly boost the tourism industry.

Flagged off by Chib at a function, the team will start its trekking from Shopian in south Kashmir via Peer Ki Gali along the underconstruction Mughal road that, on completion, will provide an alternate road link between the valley and the rest of the country.

The expedition, which is organised by the Government College of Physical Education Ganderbal, will pass through Peer Ki Gali, Nandan Sar and Chandan Sar and will conclude later this week at Shahdra Sharief in Rajouri district of Jammu region, a spokesman said.

 

Hailing the efforts of the organisers, the Minister said this is the first ever trekking and camping programme at the state level indicative of popularity that the sports culture was gaining in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Government is committed to boosting the young talent through promotion of sports activities and has taken numerous steps in organising various tournaments across the State, besides providing better sports infrastructure and facilities," said Chib.

He also said that the government has taken various initiatives to encourage players to participate at national and international level tournaments.
