50 mobile towers sealed for tax default by land owners

Local authorities today started sealing mobile phone towers located on private plots of those who have failed to pay commercial tax.

"Officials of Thane Tehsil office swung into action after the expiry of the time-limit to pay the dues and started sealing the mobile towers in Thane city and surrounding places including Navi Mumbai and Mira Bhayander," a release stated.

So far 50 such towers have been sealed.

"The drive will continue tomorrow as well and go on till all the towers of all the defaulters are sealed," an official said.

District Collector had last week asked the property owners to pay the tax immediately.
 

"There are total 1523 towers of different mobile service providers on the land owned by the property owners within the limits of Thane, Mira Bhayander and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporations.

"They have been served with the notices for the payment of the tax long back but they have failed in payment of the taxes," said Thane tehsildar KK Badane.
