: Tension prevailed on busy Avanashi Road here today following an argument between security personnel of an exhibition hall and over 500 taxi drivers over parking of vehicles, resulting in drivers protesting before the hall for nearly half an hour.
Police said a medical conference was underway in the hall and there were lots of cabs parked in the area.Trouble started after a taxi driver dropped a passenger and parked the car near the gate, which security personnel objected to.
Despite the driver telling them he would remove the car after getting the fare, security personnel brought in a crane and lifted the car to another spot and deflated the vehicle's tyres
The enraged drivers, hired by the conference organisors, raised slogans against the authorities and squatted on the road, seeking action against the security personnel, police said.
Some police personnel posted at the hall entrance made a futile attempt to solve the issue.
The problem ended after the manager of the hall came to the spot and apologised to the drivers, police said.
