As many as 500 cartons of English wine worth nearly Rs 50 lakh were seized from Firozabad-bound truck at Kotban border today, police said.
"5,000 litres of wine packed in 500 cartons has been recovered during a surprise check at the border falling under Kosikalan police station," Dy. SP PeeyushKumar said.
"The market cost of the liquor is stated to be around Rs 50 lakh. The driver Angarej Singh and cleaner Bittu, both residents of Punjab, have been arrested. The truck has been impounded," he said.
"Both have confessed that they were delivering the cartons from Chandigarh to a roadside dhaba between Shikohabad and Sirsaganj. They were also carrying forged papers," he added.
