Army Wives Welfare Association today sent a group of 25 war widows from Jammu and Kashmir on a seven-day national integration tour, as part of AWWA's golden jubilee year celebrations.
During the trip, aimed to promote the spirit of integration and inspire goodwill, the 'veer naris' (women whose husbands died in war or insurgency) will visit the Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Temple, Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, a defence spokesperson said.
This will also give them an opportunity to meet and interact with women and families of Army establishments in New Delhi and Agra, the spokesman said.
The celebrations will culminate next year, when the association will mark its golden jubilee.
A tour was flagged off by Rashmi Hooda, Regional President, AWWA, Northern Command from Udhampur, he said.
Hooda presented all the war widows with travel hampers and shawls, he said, adding, the trip will provide them an opportunity to visit historical, religious and national monuments in the two cities.
The AWWA, Northern Command has chartered for fulfilling the societal obligation through social empowerment and skill-building of spouses, war widows, dependents of Army personnel since its inception.
"It also aims at the holistic development and well-being of war widows of J&K state, which is reeling under the impact of terrorism since long time," he said.
