51-year old woman treated for swine flu dies

A 51-year-old woman, undergoing treatment for swine flu, (H1N1) influenza, died today at the government hospital here.

Padmini, who tested positive for the flu yesterday, died without responding to treatment in the wee hours, hospital sources said.

The woman, from Veerapandipudur on outskirts of the city, was admitted to the hospital with complaints of fever and sore throat, a couple of days ago after returning from a pilgrimage to Tirupati.

She also had blood pressure problem and was suffering from pneumonia, the sources added.

Meanwhile, a 62-year-old man from Udhagamandalam in nearby Nilgiris district, who was admitted to the hospital following complaints of high fever and throat pain, has also tested positive for swine flu.
