The Indian Air Force today rescued 53 people stranded in remote areas of Kishtwar district for the past one week following heavy snowfall.
The 130 Helicopter Unit- 'The Condors', of the IAF stationed at Jammu rescued the 53 people, a defence spokesman said.
Braving snow and extreme cold conditions, IAF's MI-17 chopper airlifted the people who had been trapped for the past one week, he said.
The aircraft took off at 1130 hours after poor visibility delayed its sorties and carried out the rescue mission till late evening, braving the freezing temperature of minus 6 degrees Celsius, he said.
