As many as 54 senior students of IIIT Nuzvid were suspended today for allegedly ragging their juniors on its campus in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh last month.

The action was initiated after a disciplinary committee formed to probe the August 29 incident submitted its report today and recommended suspension of the students, an official said.

"A total of 54 students--in their third and fourth years--have been suspended for varying durations ranging from two weeks to one year for ragging junior students on the campus," said Nuzvid IIIT Administration Officer (AO) Rama Kanth.

Around 12 junior students of the prestigious institute were assaulted on August 29 allegedly by their seniors while accusing them of working for the college management.

Following the incident, the Vice-Chancellor and the Director of the institute constituted the disciplinary committee to look into the incident.
