A 54-year-old man was tied to an electric pole and allegedly beaten to death by his neighbour following a quarrel at Kurumbapalayam in the district, police said today.
Police said the deceased man, Shaktivel and his neighbour Ramesh used to quarrel for trivial reasons due to previous enmity and yesterday also both quarreled, leading to fisticuffs, police said.
After thrashing him, Ramesh tied Shaktivel to an electric pole and continued to beat him till he fell unconscious, police said.
Ramesh later got admitted to a government hospital, claiming that Shaktivel had inflicted knife injuries on him, police said.
Passers-by today noticed the body tied to the pole and informed police who took Ramesh and his mother into custody for questioning.
