55 yr-old arrested for cheating and stealing from old persons

A 55-year-old man has been arrested here on charges of cheating old persons and stealing cash and gold ornaments from them by promising to help them in getting old-age pension, police todaay said.

Police filed a case based on a complaint from a woman, who alleged that a fellow passenger during her travel from Kancheepuram to Tambaram promised her to get old age pension soon after they alighted, but did not return after he took away her gold ornaments and cash of Rs 30,000.

Investigation revealed that similar cases have been filed in other police stations in the city and a detailed probe involving CCTV footage pointed at a person, who cheated old persons of money in different towns in nothern Tamil Nadu.
 

Identified as Murali alias Kotti (55), he took to this practice of cheating with his earlier experience in a party where he was helping people get old age pension, police said.

After leaving the party, Murali involved himself in cheating old persons and stealing money and gold from them and had been to prison earlier on a similar charge.

Gold to the tune of 110 sovereigns was recovered from Puducherry, Tindivanam, Tiruvannamalai and Chennai, police said.
