56 cartons of illegal liquor seized ahead of Delhi polls

Just two days ahead of Delhi Assembly elections, 56 cartons of illegal liquor were seized and three persons arrested in this connection in West Delhi, police said today.

Hemraj (36), Gurmeet (31) and Gurdeep Singh (25) were apprehended by the staff of West Delhi police in separate instances yesterday.

In the first incident which took place in Uttam Nagar, a police patrolling staff spotted one person moving suspiciously and arrested him in front of his house after a chase.

During a search of his house, 44 cartons containing whiskey, for sale in Haryana, were recovered.

In the second incident, a tip off was received at Hari Nagar police station that illicit liquor has been procured by one Gurmeet Singh for distribution during the Election.
 

On this information, a raiding party reached Gurmeet's house and conducted a search during which eight cartons of whisky and 12 bottles of beer were recovered from the spot.

On sustained interrogation, he confessed that he was storing liquor for distribution during elections in Delhi, police said.

In the third case, four cartons of illicit liquor was recovered from Gurdeep for distribution in Vishnu Garden area.
